Mountfleet Highlander Puffer
« on: November 11, 2015, 05:51:45 pm »

Advice please.
I am contemplating  purchasing and building the kit of the Mountfleet Highland puffer for a winter project and would like it to run on steam.
However I can find little reference to fitting it out with a live steam unit. Has anyone done this ? and if so what size boiler and engine was used that fits in the hold and the models chimney without to much or no alteration  to the model. Or is it just not practical?
Any help/idea's  appreciated before I dip my feet !!!
Regards

Hey Ian , check out Nick's log on his Sealight . . . .

He's doing his 'the proper' way, the steam plant where it should be in front of the wheelhouse, already had trial's and looks good , not easy tho' . . . .

Hi
Thanks for that Bill.
I had viewed that thread and it seems to  fit ! However the funnel on the Highlander is in a different position possibly making it more difficult hence my post.
I'm thinking my best option is to bite the bullet and buy the kit and delve into the oily Dark !!

If you could show a few pictures of the ship in question, it would be easier to give advice. Without having seen it, I can recommend vertical boilers from Saito or Regner. Both have some small and light brass models which might be easier to fit in a puffer without using the cargo hold.
