Spektrum DX5E won't complete binding
« on: September 09, 2009, 09:26:08 pm »

Had this all working but now, every time I use the boat I have to re-bind it. Someone suggested the process wasn't completing and they were right. I don't get the solid LED. I bought a new AR500, neither work. Moved the TX far away, changed batteries, tried out of the boat with 4 X AA's and so on. Goes through the flashing lights, all go out but solid LEd won't come on.  In this "part binded" state, it can be tricked into working by powering TX/RX off and on several times. Any ideas?

Have you tried binding it with the bind plug?

I didn't know it could be bound without it? Once its in, the LED starts to flash, then it goes out but it should come back on and lock on, and it doesn't. Thought it might be because the TX was too close, but have tried it with the TX at the end of the garden and someone watching the Rx. Kind of want to believe someting is faulty but these things are so reliable these days. Mike

It should be used to initially bind the receiver then remove it for normal use.
Keep it handy in case you need to rebind.
But it should bind with it in.

Done all these things. Only the receiver, a battery pack and bind plug. same for two identical receivers. It starts to bind, otherwise the flashing LED's wouldn't go out. Someone else must have had this problem for another guy at the pond to suggest the Tx may be too close. I trained as an electronics engineer so have a pretty good idea how it works. Has anyone contacted Spekrum to get an item checked or repaired and if so who do you contact? If anyone else knows what might be wrong, I'd still be pleased to get a simple answer. For now I've fitted a 40meeg system to the Graupner trueblue for my father-inlaw but he'll not be able to change the xtal.

Plug in bind plug to bnd slot, add battery pack only and get flashing leds. Pull bind switch on Tx and turn on. LED goes out on Rx but that's it, the led doesn't come back on. In this state I think it can be made to work by powering on and off the Tx and Rx. When the rudder or servo kicks in, it works but loses control when it is re-used agaoin and the whole bind process has to be repeated. (The last comment isw when the servo's are plugged back in of course.) I'm thinking I need to send it off to Spektrum to get them look at it. Mike

Try this, I have used Spektrum radios since they were introduced, when faced with the DX5 of another club member it lead me a merry dance until I followed this, after all was fine!

For repair you need to talk to Horizon Hobby, a company that has provided me with what can be only described as outstanding customer service.  :-))

Have found that my DX5e fails to bind when in the same room as my computer Wi-Fi base station.
Apparently they use similar frequency bands.
Always works at the poolside though.
