Re cladding
« on: July 08, 2015, 06:34:25 pm »

I have just taken off the Ali cladding on one of my ships as she will now be used in salt water and the Ali will corrode. The base is 3mm ply What is the best way to re clad it and what is best to stick it with?

It sounds like a fibreglass job to me. You can buy the materials from repuatble dealers online or use the kits available from halfords, but your choice of fibre matting material is limited, whereas from said dealers, you can buy many weights of glass cloth and /or mat.

When you say cladding, do you mean plate on frame as in a real ship, or cladding over a ply skin?

Right ho. Well, go for GRP as it should give you a resilient and chemical proof layer.
