Trucker's - Severn Supporter
« on: September 11, 2022, 08:05:42 am »

Hi, All
Having had no success with getting the GA. plan printed to a larger size so that i can build a model of this vessel i set about some research and now made a set of plans of my own, i did this by simply expanding the the PDF on my lap top then drawing out the lines on paper, i expanded the image to 259% it wasnt exactly to what i wanted but its a good size to work with, the beam comes out 252mm and LOA 627mm. this i around 1/35 scale.

That's an interesting solution to the dilemma and looking forward to seeing how things progress.

Pity you could not make a pantograph in thick card and expand it to the desired size that way, print off the original pdf, calculate the length it needs to be and trace the A4 to the new size.

Not knowing the vessel and being intrigued by cabin shape I played in Google and found this page from the company who use Severn Supporter,
https://www.landfall.nl/severn-supporter
It has photo of vessel as page header & I just discovered that right clicking on 'open image in new tab' gives this quite nice 2366 x 1690 oblique image from starboard side and just a hair aft, of vessel underway.

https://www.landfall.nl/wp-content/uploads/2020/07/FF103672-compressed.jpg
Shows a couple guys in wheelhouse & has a nice angle on chain and tire/tyre fender all down the side.
Oh, they also have a quite nice PDF which includes 4 view drawing of exterior and an internal deckplan. Also diagram showing lifting capacity of crane at different extensions.
Will bet that is the PDF which Trucker is using for this build.

on page two of work boats,
In saying page two of work boats I expect that means the tugs and workboats section of the same Landfall NL website, but since I know of the following US magazine website titled WorkBoat, that was what first came to my mind.
My bookmark is set to their shipbuilding section,

Hi Trucker, it's good to see you're using the combination of wood and plastic - should help to keep the weight of the topsides down.

Hi, just cant put this down, heres a little more of the build so far, the picture shows a wooden structure inside the bridge, i put a forme inside so it would hold the wall to the angle i was looking for and then allow them to dry after gluing.

Hi, just cant put this down,
That can be a thing when you're doing a build and get in the groove, as the saying says.  :}

another pic of a little work, this is the over sized spot light that sits on top of the bridge, its scratch made from the scrap box, for the silver reflector look around the LED bulb ive used a sweet wrapper, its quite effective  %% . it will also rotate but the light angle will be fixed, and it will light up too,

One of those mini-projects which add life and character to a model.

hi all,
ive added some control panals and cupboards into the bridge, a couple of chairs are needed and some thought required for the painting and glazing before closing this part down.

That is shaping up nicely.
Sorry, but you're on your own for all that thinking!  :}

as i flick about from one part to another on this build i came up with the idea of a couple lights for the wheel house, these are experimentle at the moment but it shows my ideas, all the parts for the lighting are recycled from a kiddies sit on car, im hoping to use many more bits from the car for this build..

Hi Every one,
The basic hull build is almost complete, i have fitted the frames and given the inside a good few coats of varnish, im looking at several methods to complete the corners, then its time to consider the running gear, rudders and the fiber glass out side covering.
