just looking as the size of the gun barrels and thinking about the way they are mounted, do gun ballers 'droop' over time?
(Oo, Er, Mrs etc! ) But with all that weight and ships movement and constant weather annealing, don't they sag under their own weight after a while?

.... obviously I don't know what I'm talking about... just wondering out loud... :)

That might explain the number of 'drop shorts'.

As an aside. When I was in the Army I fell off the back of a truck one and landed on my rifle. we went to the firing range, and although my weapon was firing OK I could not hit anywhere near the target.
Turns out that the barrel was bent, but she was still firing.

Barrels do, indeed, sag all the time.

The amount of sag varies depending on the elevation, and tables were made that take the effects of sagging into consideration for particular ranges.

Don't they have dogs for dinner in China?

Is that the origin of the phrase "A dog's dinner"?
