Oakgarth

Oakgarth.

This is a model of the Tug Oakgarth as based in Liverpool & at the time was a Cory tug.
I was attracted to this tug as a model subject as the full size one had been fitted with a bow thruster, and I wished to try my hand at building a model thruster.

Power is by direct coupled 2 x 12v Electric Car Fan Heater Motors through Steering Kort Nozzles with 62mm Props.  Bow Thruster...Tunnel type Direct Drive via 550 type motor and 1:1 bevel gears to a 25.4mm 4 blade prop.

Speed control by linear speed controllers except the bow thruster which is full on full off. Find I get a better response that way. She has only been on the pond twice & performs very well indeed.

Future work in hand is for a working winch both forward & aft.

Details are...
Scale....1:32
Length...1015mm (40")
Beam.....280mm (11")
A bollard pull test has not yet been done, but expect to get at least 4 lbs.
