I'm probably wrong but I believe I noticed that current Scalextric slot guides lift the front wheels off the track. Is this correct? Is this fair? I don't remember this being the case when I was a lad, nor did they have magnets. Perhaps this is where F1 got their engineering ideas from?
OK I was watching the Hornby programme about the Lambo Countach!
Not just Scalextric cars, but many of the other manufacturers do that too.
Having said that, the higher-tech slot racers have adjustable height front axles so you can have the wheels clear of the track, have them in firm contact or have them just brush the track a little as the car leans into the turns.
Having just the rear wheels on the track and the guide in the slot gives the car 'tri-angular stability' which makes for more predictable handling.
