Sonic Sippi
« on: May 19, 2024, 05:51:02 pm »

A paddle hydroplane! I bought this plan through Ebay out of sheer curiosity. I believe the designer was Peter Holland, and the intended power source a DC Dart 0.5cc diesel engine. An interesting concept; I suppose a brushless inrunner might work, though it's hard to see how to apply a guidance system.

A club member of mine built one about 40 years ago, funniest thing I have ever seen, mind you these are modern times.

I remember Peter Holland operating his R/C robots in the foyer at the Wembley Model Engineering Exhibitions back in the early 1980's. He used to keep the transmitter behind his back so it gave the impression the robot was acting autonomously.

Perhaps consider making the paddle wheel steerable like an outboard motor to give some steering.

Approx. 42cm or 16", assuming that the plan I have (a photocopy) is actually full-size.

Thanks for the further info. What a fascinating machine, I'm sorely tempted to have a go at one.
