I don't know about the orange ones, but I bought a clone from Giantcod which works OK in my boat. As with all 2.4Ghz its best to keep at least one aerial above the water line. I'm not sure I would trust this in a high speed boat - offshore power boat or Fast Electric - but for pottering about in a scale boat no problem.
This is the one I bought was only £6.11. They have one like the orange one, but they are £22.

This thread does bring about a few questions. Should the model fail and cause an accident would the
insurance cover it? You were using non standard equipment. Personally i think it should. Also at the moment
clones are just appearing. They are a bit of an unknown quantity.Range, reliabilty etc But at the price makes
you wonder how Futuba can justify theres especially as there made in Taiwan. John.

I have Orange receivers in all my boats and never had a problem with them. AFAIK they only work with DSM2 transmitters and are not compatible with other types (incl DX6) although they will work with DX6i   :-)) :-))

I bought 4 orange DSM2 receivers from Honky Fid for £20 inc postage
7 Days from order to delivery
I am using 1 in a Marblehead, 1 in a Victoria and one in a Tug with no problems whatsoever
They have replaced my Giant cod gear as I was given a Spektrum DX6i with no receivers
and it was the cheapest option

As far as non standard equipment - hoa w many people are using, fregsample, Hitec Rx with a JR/foobar Tx on 27 or 40MHz {:-{ same difference here with an Orange Rx and a DSM2 Tx

Clones..... hmm, yes they are about, especially on evilbay - such as 'Brand new AR6100 Rx for £10, 99 available" <*< now the Rx's such as Orange are not clones but compatibles :-))

The orange RX's are very good... I dont knowpersonally about the DSM ones as I don't have them but from all accounts they are up to par with the Spektrum ones (some say better as they are less susseptible to "Brown outs". They also sell futaba compatible FAAST ones as well and these have a range on par with the futaba RX. I have 2 orange RXs in my helis and about to put a 3rd in a new RC plane.  Half the price of a genuine Futaba RX

I too have used the Orange DSM2 Compatable receivers on scale marine models without any problems at all for the last year.     At $6.99 (or well under £5!) each from www.hobbyking.com, I really do consider them an absolute bargain.        Postage from HK is under £4 for a sizeable order and arrives in well under 7 days.

Hi all

I have had good results with these Orange Rx's in my Fireboat and Seaplane Tender so now fitted out 5 boats with these. All purchased via fleabay from Pro Flight UK currently at £7.15 inc postage.
