« on: October 17, 2008, 05:59:23 pm »

Hi All

Does anyone know if a 2.4 module can sucessfully be fitted into an eclipse 7 transmitter without affecting any of the channels functions?

cheers

wouldn't think so Stevext , i have an eclipse 7 ,i know that you can intercange the modules with 35mhz and 40mhz and what other modules there are within its parameters ,but you have to look at the distance the frequencys are apart .
Just my thoughts.

The actual Tx module of your Eclipse 7 is just there to convey the positions of your gimbals/switches/sliders to your receiver. In this case we're talking transmission of those endoded signals via radio, but you can transmit those same signals via any medium you so desire - whether it be infra-red, or light, sound, whatever.
So I'm taking a gamble that your Tx could well indeed be converted to work on 2.4GHz. That would be the easy part. The hard part would probably be trying to stuff the the 2.4 Tx module inside your Eclipse without recourse to some major surgery, thereby invalidating any remaining warranty. But so what?... warranties are for wimps, right?

Maybe one word of warning, though....
Some 2.4GHx Tx modules will not transmit more channels than they're designed for. For instance, a 7-channel Tx module will happily work alongside any 2-channel / 3-channel / 4-channel / 5-channel / 6-channel and 7-channel radio, but it will not recognise more than seven. If you try to stuff more than 7-channels up a 7-channel Tx module it means you lose those subsequent channels.
Regarding Futaba Tx modules, for instance, as far as I'm aware theirs only go to 8 channels max. (but don't quote me on that). Futaba sell Tx's with a maximum of 14 channels these days, but I believe the actual Tx strip is integral to the radio itself. i.e: you cannot purchase a separate 14-channel module.

Good luck.

Hi stevext ,spoke to the guys at a model world the other day at blackpool about your question and, in the words of little britan "computa say's no).
for the price of a new set you would be better buying a dedicated 2.4 g set.
I bought one from the guys a blackpool and can say that they are good , yet to use on the water but on the bench no differnce from 40mhz .
Oh i dont have any connection with a model world .

I am using there stuff and it is very good, you can instantly see the current draw voltage temp etc and the receivers are a nice size,it lets you know when you are getting out of range as well, plus can be fitted to older radio's to bring them bang up to date, even fleet so you wont have the widest signal on the lake.

Peter , so that TF module plugs straight into the back of an eclipse 7 ?
What about the recievers , is there a particular model to be used for binding purposes.
Also whats the price in relation to say the futaba 6ex ? .

they are not the cheapest as they are made in the EU. but thebuild quality is good, they just plug straight in to where the old module was, I actually used the TU unit and fitted it inside to make it neater for me as am not able to hold a TX the same as most people. they have there own reviver's and are very simple to bind . one good thing about them is you can eather use the TX own memory or each receiver can be programed via the optional display that is very cheap. so you can use the TX with all your boats and there is no nead to switch memories for each boat.

there was a very good article in one off  last years MMI mag

Thank you Peter , yes they are not the cheapest by far , so at the moment i will leave it as it is , apart from that i have just bought a cheap 2.4ghz set and 3 extra recievers for nearly that price .
But i wont put the system away yet .

HobbyKing.com have corona module systems Assan module's and also so called hack systems for Tx's that are not module based

This is what I'm planning to put in my JR max66 which does not have a module system, $28.95 US extra receivers about $20

yes they work great, I did a JR 2+2 transmitter  (about 20+ years old) there are 3 wires to connect 1 to power 1 to negative and the last one to signal if it has a trainer socket its a doddle or a existing module , if not its a trace the signal, but so many people have done the mod the info is on the web. and you have a rejuvenated TX on2.4 ghz that you can buy receivers for at under a tenner.
