thats pretty easy ... search online for a mtronic's esc, make sure you get one with forward and quick reverse ( some have a braking function, avoid these for boating) and any standard servo should do the job try looking through giant cod's site for the bits you need

esc' rated 60amp manx (over kill for a dicky but its cheap which is the idea i guess)
http://www.giantcod.co.uk/60amp-boat-p-404813.html

heavy duty servo btu you can get a lesser version a bit cheaper.. dont get the micros i dont think that will do the job in a dicky

Its just as well the ESC is not in stock - its for a Brushless motor {:-{

You can't do better than give FLJ a ring - I think he also sells servos, so you could save on postage :-))

Barrie

PS FLJ is ACtion if you hadn't realised - see his add on the Forum

Basically the higher the voltage of the battery the faster it will turn the motor (not counting your using an ESC) 12 volt will probably be too fast flat out.  It's the Ah that will give you longer running times. I have a seaport (dickie) with a 6v 4Ah battery and i get plenty of run time ( i have never run it out at the pond). FLJ's esc's will keep running down to 2 volts, dont forget your battery will lose voltage as it runs down.  Most esc's have a safety cut out at around 5 volts.

I dont know how much you know about motors and Ah (amp hours) but you can roughly calculate running time ie:

With a 4Ah battery a motor pulling one amp will last 4 hours or a motor pulling 4amps will last 1 hour etc. Not totally accurate as there is friction etc to deal with but it's close enough.

Thank you for that i now know 100% more about motors now then i did before this post :-)  This is very good info for someone like me

Hi karls.
I have one of these in my seaport.

I made a 6v battery pack with c cells to keep the weight down but the 6.4ah lead acid will do the job.

If you want to know how to find out what amps your motor will draw I can send you a diag its self explanitory

                                cheers Frank

I have a 6v 5mAh SLA battery in my Seaport conversion. It has the same external dimensions as 6v 4mAh battery but gives a longer run time.

Hmm... If you're looking for cheap, I use a lot of these servos from Giant Cod at £2.32 a throw... http://www.giantcod.co.uk/towerpro-sg90s-micro-servo-p-403861.html

And I have a box full of these ESCs which I got for £1.90 each - I think they have now gone up to £2.46 each - out of my price range %% %%... http://www.r2hobbies.com/eng/proddetail.php?prod=rcps51601

But I would keep them well below their rated value of 25 amp.....

Not too sure about a forward only ESC for a tug.

Alas, you are right - I wasn't reading your requirements carefully enough. But they are very cheap - at that price they're worth buying for the connectors alone....

Their cheapest reversing ones are £8.22. I can only dream of having such a fortune to spend on an ESC, so I have never tried one of these.... specced at 110 amps, mind, but the reviews say they die at 50.....
