« on: January 14, 2007, 11:04:42 am »

What is the best way to orientate an antenna? ???

Vertical fully extended?
Horizontal?
Around the inside of the hull?
Makes no difference??

Vertical and fully extended is always best, but not always the most practical. Having said that, if you're sailing a 1/72 scale puffer on a paddling pool where range isn't a problem, the placement of the Rx aerial isn't going to be critical. Just make sure you keep the aerial wire away from motor and servo wiring.
My advice is to try a range check with the most practical aerial installation for your model and see if it's adequate. BTW, I always do range checks with the motor(s) running, as this will highlight any sensitivity at extreme range (that's the radio system - not me!).
Works for me, but suit yourself anyway.

That was really good advice from the Jacket, not sure what you are sailing but try and stand on one side of the lake with a pal holding the boat on the other side and make sure it all works with the motors running is all I have ever needed to do.

Glyn,

Sorry mate that would not work for me as the lake I use here is 35 km across, not to many radios will work that far.... ;D ;D

Captain Jack and I did a trans test by leaving his tug in the back of my car while I drove off
even with the steel around the tug he was almost out of sight before the tugs motors went erratic
So it was onto the pond and fun fun fun
