I would stick with the original deck on a dynamic diver. Those large slots might not be scale but they are designed to flood down well without problems with surface tension etc. So no embarrassing problems with trapped wind.

Lovely model. Like to see it working.

I take it is as "seen" in the original novel of  "War of the Worlds?"

A very dramatic scene in the book. Never really surpassed in the various films - blazing trains and turned over ferries don't quite do it!

You will have to get it it to set on fire though.
