I have purchased a Taranis Qx7 Tx (EU version) and now find myself looking for a receiver to suit my needs (without costing the earth!). I had not anticipated an array of 44 to sort through!. I need 8 PWM channels. Extra bells and whistles are no problem but obviously they push the price up.
Can anyone recommend a modestly priced Rx for a model boat that is compatible with the EU version of the Qx7?

The X8R was the one that looked promising to me. I couldn't be sure it was compatible with the QX7 (although the Tx manual implied that it was). T9hobbysport make it clear!
I'll contact them Thursday (I'm out all day tomorrow).

They are local to me and their prices are cheaper than eBay china
First class service

I'm using 2 with my 9XE

I made a little structure to support the antenna. No idea if its of benefit but works so far

Frsky is such great kit and cheaper than spektrum as well as punching well above it’s price point

To be most effective the aerials should be at 90 degrees to each other. One from each receiver vertical and one horizontal. You could set them at 45 degrees to give a V with 90 degrees between the arms.

I’ve been there too Jim

but after lots of reading and advice from others I concluded that for boats as opposed to aircraft the set up I have is most beneficial
A whole subject in itself but mine works fine vertical/vertical at 90 degrees to each other

Yes I’ve been to their sales counter but only a few on display as they are predominantly mail order
I bought my transmitter from hobby king a little cheaper before I discovered T9 otherwise I would have bought there

Be careful now as you have a EU version when buying receivers, try to buy those marked EU LBT, or aternatively re flash your tx to global. My Taranis is running 2.1 opentx in global, and I found out about the EU flash when I bought an EU receiver and couldn't bind it...

Don't know about the QX7, but flashing an Rx on the Taranis is a pain in the backside

I am currently looking at buying 1 of these units. Im building my 1st rc beam trawler, i wasm hoping to have 4 separately controlled winches, would the 4 3-way switches at the top be able to perform this? Totally new to RC and am struggling a bit with the electronic side of things.

Yes they would, though you'd need a way of controlling the end stops of your winches.

Sorry I might be being dumb here, will it not just be a case of flicking the switches back to the central position to stop the winches? Am totally new to this and all help is greatly appreciated.

You can use the three position switches to control a servo with two microswitches to give forward and reverse on the winch motor. However when the winch reaches the end point it will continue to turn until you notice and switch it off. If you are winching in this could lead to the line breaking or damage to where it is connected to. The winch needs an endstop which can be a microswitch to stop the motor. Ideally two switches are needed, one for each end of the winch travel. The complication is to wire the switches up so that they only stop the motor turning in one direction.

Ok, thanks for your reply, I think I understand what you mean. I was going to use rc crawler winches as they will all be hidden away below decks most ofwhich come with controllers, so would I ditch those? Thanks again for helping.

If you use a crawler winch with an rc programmer that's all you need. Bear in mind there may still be a small amount of setup left to do to get the winch to stop where you want it to.
