Yellow ebay thing.
« on: February 22, 2010, 03:40:33 pm »

I'm looking at something rather yellow on ebay, what does everyone think of it? Could use it in the swimming pool I go kayaking in.

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=280467633176&fromMakeTrack=true

Is it static diving? I'm not after a dynamic diving sub... It wouldn't be yellow for long by the way.

Yep it's a static diver. These were sold by Eden Models, later taken over by Sheerline, but I don't think Chris produces this model anymore.

Looks like someone has been doing their own thing with the conning tower added on.

Well it looks like I'll be bidding then. Rough guess how much do you reckon it's worth?

Just got a reply from the seller, the reserve is £150 and he won't post it. Ouch.

Manchester is a bit too far for me if he's not going to post it, seeing as I'm in Stevenage. I won't bother with it.

I'll post a thread on mayhem wants thread in a bit.

Worth that for the Unit, suggest twisting his arm about posting!

The person he's selling it for says he hasn't got a box big enough to post it in....

I think I shall, I've offered to pay postage, so I'll have to offer to pay cardboard too %)

Hi Chaps. This is the dsrv, originally designed and produced by Eden models and later produced by me to the original spec. The model in the pic was in fact a kit produced by myself..... Note the yellow anchor on the dive unit ballast tank.
The model worked well, it has an Akula dive unit on board.runs off two 6Volt batteries wired in series (12V) and mounted under the dive unit. The sub when built worked very well indeed and the basic design could be visually enhanced by the builder by the addition of railings, turret, hatches etc to his own design. This is something the builder of this boat has set about doing.
It did not sell in huge numbers, there are quite a few around though and there was a load of room on board if one wanted to fit a camera.
It's rather a benign thing, looks quite cuddly and can be seen well below the surface due to the bright yellow colouring.
If anyone buys it and it needs any parts, I can still make em.
I pulled the plug on it quite a while back as I wanted to make some mods to the design but simply haven't had the time. One day O0

Managed to talk the owner into posting it today, as the seller has aquired a box large enough, so I'll be bidding to win.

No doubt I'll have lots of questions for you Chris, but till then here's a pic of what (roughly) I want to do with it:

Don't worry, the Cobra is firmly at the top of the list for getting finished. In the coming months I'm going to be selling an awful lot of stuff, 5 35meg recievers have gone, I've got 5 planes and an aero engine on ebay now, I'm also sorting out hulls and cars. I'm going to focus on a couple of models rather than owning tons of them. Plus I've always wanted a sub.

Are you going to bring it along to the Summer Dive-in at St Albans in June?

Good man. Don't forget it's just £5 if paying in advance but £10 if paying on the day.

Spread the word amongst fellow submariners at your local club please. The more that attend the lower the cost. It's a great venue for subs.

Don't knock it until you've tried it. Subs are far more like model aircraft than model ships, but have a less depressing knack of re-kitting themselves.

I wanted to come last year but it coincided with our clubs regatta.

I've wanted a sub for as long as I've known about them. I've got two lovely pools close to where I live whose managers of which are very friendly and wouldn't at all object to me running one in their pool.

We've currently only got two subs in our club, a Robbe Seawolf and a Gato, don't know who makes it but I'd give a rough guess of 50" long (definately not a Revell one though).

What I'd like is a big K-19 or Typhoon, but that's for later in life ;)

Ramesh (Mankster) should have his big Engel Typhoon there this year.

Gato may be an Engel or a Scale Shipyard hull, or even scratchbuilt.

The pools that you speak of, are they indoor or outdoor?

Sounds good.

No idea what the Gato is, isn't scratchbuilt, I'll dig out a pic 'from the archives'.

Both indoor, in Stevenage and Letchworth. Haven't been to stevenage in ages but go to Letchworth every other week for kayaking.

Are they cheap? Been on the lookout for an indoor venue that's cheap (or free) for quite while, maybe for an evening winter run.

I don't think they are to be honest, our kayak club lost £1000 last year  :o I'll have a look.

Timetable seems pretty full, but I attach the relevant contact sites:

Yep, TK-20 will be there!
