Right firstly, sorry for the slow reply, no sleep in 36 hours meant just about managed to send 1 pm yesterday morning then fell asleep until 20 mins before work last night. So...

Some basic rules, I want it to be as simple as possible, and a laugh rather than a serious race so the rules are (I feel) very slack.

1: electric only but no restrictions on size of motor/s, batteries, prop, water jet. But please remember this is a fun thing not a serious race.
2: no major mods to the hull, ie no mounting the duck on a powerboat hull. Restricted to the fitting of a keel or some small fins to help keep it straight. I was personally thinking of a longish keel with a fishing weight on the bottom, but that's your decision.
3: each duck will need to be easily identifiable whilst on the lake, so a custom flag needs to be flown from the top of the ducks head, if you want something specific, pm me with a description or picture and I'll make a list.
4: the duck needs to be either the 1 from Hawkins bazaar or 1 the same though I don't know who else sells them.

I think those 4 rules should essentially cover the basics, if I've overlooked some glaringly obvious decisions please let me know.

The winner will get a 'prize' but don't get excited, I can guarantee it will be cheap and tacky, to match the 'vessels' taking part!

As for names, if anyone wants to reserve a name thats fine, just add it to the thread and I'll make a list.
I'd like to reserve 'queen quacker' for myself and 'duckzilla' for my gf.

Not sure of the course, only been to the boating lake at wicksteed for about 5 mins last Saturday, there were some cones in the water, maybe a race around these? But it will be around corners aswell as straights so you'll need to try and get it to turn ok.

(another long night at work last night so please forgive any typos or omissions.)

Rules look good, can we have paddlewheels as well as there are some good cheapish geared motors out there and I did fancy a sidewheeler...although a sternwheeler may be best for simplicity %)...decisions decisions...liked the 2.4GHz suggestion too for avoidance of frequency clashes, Giant Cod are doing a 4 channel set for £25 at the mo and I can always use it in my other builds...when I build them! :embarrassed:

Paddle wheels are fine, and the 2.4 ghz is a good idea I just didn't want to insist on it, as some people may not have the money to go eating new radio aswell, I'd rather say 2.4 ghz is strongly advised, but if you really haven't got the money or really don't want to be buyin more radio gear the use the older sets, but be prepared for a bit of trouble if someone else has the same frequency as you.

Thanks dude, have just had a quick Google check on 'giant bath duck' and you can buy them on InternetukShop for £11.99 and a good few other places too, they are described as being 32 x 23.8 x 18.2cm, I trust that this is the right one? If it is or if anyone finds them much cheaper do let us all know...let the building commence!

PS You can also buy a pink version with white love hearts for the ladies in your lives! ok2

Lol, i have literally about 30 secs ago done the exact same, as i know hawkins bazaar postage is a bit pricey (though I'm lucky and have 2 of them local, 1 in bath and 1 in bristol)

by doing the same as you and googling 'giant bath duck', i found a place called 24retail, who do a bright pink 1 with little white hearts on it, anyone got a daughter who wants to take part? lol

and mods please delete this if its deemed inappropriate but theres a selection of colours on ebay aswell, http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=330577435358  though it does state that they are only 10 inches long.

AA: yes the correct size is the 32cm long ducks, so yes as stated if anyone else finds them cheaper, let us all know. I'll try and email the above ebay seller and see if these are infact the correct 32cm long or not.

Hi dude the InternetukShop duck has length given as both 32cm and 26.4cm which latter dimension is 10.39 inches, so methinks that the "10 inches" ebay duck shown is very probably the right size, colour options a good idea here to contribute to quick identification in addition to the flag, The Race is on folks How Will You Power Yours!

hawkins bazaar duck is listed as 32cm long, and 27cm high, so unsure, to be honest as long as they're much the same size it shouldn't matter.

ok got a little list of reserved names on my laptop now, i'll post it later.
