Helicopter netting
« on: May 24, 2013, 05:06:47 pm »

I'm trying to find a suitable materiel with which to make the netting around the flight deck on my 1/96 scale frigate. I had found some netting but it was nylon and wont colour   Would anyone have a suggestion

Thanks  :police:

A while back, we used some photo etched square mesh to model the netting on a barge.

Thanks Umi, but the real stuff is made from rope and sort of "sags " a little. I'd loked as a photo etch set but its too "solid"

Mosquito net (fly screen) from Lidl comes in white or black, a little heat and some thumb pressure and you have a sag. Takes Humbrol matte paint OK.

Aha , allotment. Check B&Q Garden Centre selection of netting for larger scale vessels.  I used molded plastic netting that looked like tied rope/string for a 1/24th scale warship, terrible green colour but looked OK when painted.

in reality it is a solid fence secured with iron wire sewn on a tubular frame. Looking for pictures

Identical to mine Gazou...great minds think alike etc etc .   Who is going to complete the rest of that cliche ? <*<   Soft iron wire also from garden centre, plastic covered helps with rust protection but is that damned green colour again.....make some in grey B&Q !!

Thanks Gazou... they look a little more moden than mine .. possibly my fault that I didnt state that my boat is a 70's tribal class .. one of the first ships to have a helicopter ..so the netting is a little moe basic

Their is a material called Tulle that you can get at any place that sells fabric. It is simular to what is used for a wedding valle. It is very flexiable and comes in different colors as well. Good Luck

Go to a haberdasherery and ask to be pointed towards the window netting. I've had bits from my mother in a square, a diamond and a hexagon or octogon pattern and as said above, you just paint it.

The square pattern net: I actually cut a long row of 1 square width out, painted it sand/buff coloured and got a very fine rope ladder.
