A very spooky thing happened to me this evening, for a reason unknown to me I decided to chat to my partner about my OMRA days and mentioned that I had read somewhere in the past that there are more organisations for powerboat racing nowadays.
Chrissie then did a search for me and came up with the BMPRS site and then of course we both received an almighty shock.
Some of you will know of me, and that Stewart pitted for me from my time in OMRA from 2004 to 2007 during which time we won the D Class Championship with DM's Sigma51.
We didn't always see eye to eye and had our ups and downs especially in our winning year when often I would valve bounce because I couldn't find him when he was needed for the next race, of course by then he had started doing bits for the Model Boats rag which took his attention more and more and resulted in him helping me less and less, indeed it was this situation that lead me to crown him "Scoop"
Little did I know then that the name would stick as it did.
I find it scary that we fell across this sad news like this, otherwise we would never have known it had happened.
Stewart would do anything you asked of him and had a heart of Gold, I haven't seen him for some time now but the shock of this news has stunned me.
My deepest condolences to his wife Jackie and her family, we had some great days, hard times, good times but most of all a lot of great memories which no one can ever take away from us.
Rest in peace Stew, at least you won't have to prepare my props again!
Gary.
