« on: January 22, 2014, 01:40:58 pm »

I have aquired a 40 Mhz FM Receiver ..... 7 Channel.

Can I use any 40 Mhz Transmitter with it providing the crystals match .........???? Also as It is a 7ch RX can I use a 2ch or 3ch Transmitter ?????

Or do I bin it and just buy a cheap, new tx & rx ?????

Possibly. If it's quite old there were some incompatibilities between various manufacturers to do with the pulse output- some use negative some positive shift. With later computer sets, they tended to have options to set the pulse shift to either, and those sets tend to work with anything, but older analogue sets can be a bit more fussy.

Also third party receivers tend to work with either type of shift.

Personally, unless you intend to get into model subs, I'd flog it on and put the money towards a 2.4ghz set as they're a heck of a lot better.
