Seems to have reduced considerably but still showing 26 guests , of which 6 are registering for an account ! I can understand 1 maybe but not 6 in one go..

I don't think so E2V, but interestingly I've reactivated Google search and only negligible additional loading.

It does seem that Guests can still browse threads but actually they can't. It seems they can follow a Google etc. search link to Topic but once there, they are presented with the logon page.

Martin tonight i have noticed that a guest was viewing a members profile ....how come i thought it was only members who could do that

Try it, open a page anywhere in the forum, logout, back page in your browser and refresh the page (F5)

463 guests looking at individual topics in mass instead of the sections, something's not right.

Even stranger, within ten minutes of me posting this the number of guests have dropped to 139, seems to happen in spurts throughout the day and night. Doesn't seem to effect my ability to post or upload pictures or even access Mayhem, just odd with the lock out at the moment!

There are lies, damned lies, and statistics, so I wouldn't worry too much about these numbers - they might be rolling 24 hour aggregates, or even cross-weighted diurnal polynomials for all we know. Certainly on some forums I've used the stats are actually the totals for the previous 24 hours and not 'current' values at all.

Yes, thanks for that LongBuild. The SMF Forum Administrator account was hacked but as the press release says, it will only effect account linked to that forum. How stupid must that Administrator feel!!! (He used the same password on all websites!)

... If only registered members can view/access the forums... how come there are 19 guests showing in the stats alongside 23 registered members at this point in time?

That just does not equate.

One problem I see with disabling guest access... we run the risk of loosing potential new members,

who would/may be reluctant to sign up without seeing what is available on the site in the first place.

I hope you can find the cause of the problems.
