Futaba Attack 2ER Charging Socket
« on: October 07, 2015, 07:49:00 am »

I have a Futaba Attack 2ER 40am, it takes 8 batteries 1.5v AA standard or rechargable, it has a charging socket on the side of the transmitter.

Is the socket to charge inserted 8x1.5v batteries or to use a different battery pack, if so what battery and charger set up would I need.

The charger that you plug in recharges the batteries fitted.  Rechargeable cells are typically 1.2 volts each rather than 1.5.  Different chemistry.

Top tip don't try to charge normal 1.5v batteries.... Only ones that are marked rechargeable

in that case they should be fine

The only thing you may find is that the battery boxes can sometimes get a little iffy with connection issues etc. In my flying days it was recommended to swap them out for a battery pack.

You also asked about a suitable charger. This one (Fusion NX83) runs from the AC mains and will charge your transmitter and a receiver battery at the same time - and it's less than a tenner. http://www.cornwallmodelboats.co.uk/acatalog/rc-chargers.html

If E2V can't find his then I'm certain I have a genuine Futaba one which goes unused these days. It's only about 70mA output but it's easy enough to calculate a charging time, and with that sort of current it would be very difficult to overcharge anything!
