Does anyone know if any magazine has done a review of the robbe U47? If so any idea of which magazine and issue date?

Hi Bob,
I finish building one around 10 months ago but didn't see any magazine review's at the time - did , however find several web site's that had plenty of photos and info. If I can help let me know as there are a couple of pitfall's! I found it doesn't dive very well dynamically unless you trim it well low in the water - decks awash almost - and if you fit a detailed brass deck you need to trim with polystyrene foam to keep her upright...I fitted an Engel dive tank to mine in the end with a sub leveller which, after trimming in a VERY large paddling pool now goes very well. I'm actualy selling the one I built as I get more fun from building than the sailing of models - it's in the sales and wants section. If I can remember the site's I'll get back to you.
Hope this helps,
Jim

Hi Mate.
I did a couple of web pages on my site about my U-47 build with engle 750 tank and sub tech gear etc. You might like to have a look. I love the sub. It was my first and I'm using it regularly with my group of people with disabilities. (Scope CP) Some of the guys manage diving it without help and love it! It handles quite well I think.
There's lots of video clips too, but you need broadband to watch them.

Thanks for the info. Seems the dynamic diving version needs some major mods to fit an Engle tank to turn it into a static diving version before it becomes sailable. Perhaps I should look elseware for my first submersible.

Marine Modelling July 2001(I think) has an artical on a  cheap static dive conversion using an airpump to fill 2 rubber ballast tubes made bicycle inner tubes in the saddle tanks. About ?20 to convert I think!

Hi Bob, you could try dave at sub tech/pandan models he produces two very complete static diving subs, the uss albacore and the uss marlin, look on the marine rc site for a review, the u47 does work well with the engel tank again dave at pandan has a seperate instruction sheet for the engel conversion, Pete

There's also a Chinese mob selling very cheap static diver subs that look much like a seawolf and have working X tails with mixers and fan jet prop etc. They sell kits for US$250 or turnkey for US$500. It even has a real time video camera set up as an optional extra!
The site has a video of them in action. Pretty impressive I reckon. Most things are at least partly made in China anyway, so why not sub kits? I've got 3 kits on the go at the moment or I'd give one some thought.
Here's their site anyway:

BOB,

My best mate just finished his Robbe 47 and is very happy with the kit ,but it will not dive unless you ballast it very low in the water, he is going to keep it as a surface runner, and is now building a Type XX1 with full static diving capabilities...

I believe this chinese boat is made by the same company as the new "China Boats" being imported by Ron of Deans Marine, perhaps he can shed some light on it?

Deans are importing TJ Models   www.tjmodels.com
not Arkmodels  www.arkmodel.com
The little sub is a fantastic bit off kit, I have spoken to them about shipping costs
and hope to order myself one soon.

Here's a pic of the Arkmodels WTC for whoever it was that was concerned about what's under the surface. (the post has gone) It's similar to Art Broder's RCABS system. Looks pretty good to me.
