HI ROB47
HI  Bob can you remember on tiger we was talkin about that small radar on the back of the  main mast whaether it rotated or such as I wanted to make it work well a friend of mine who lives in Portsmouth  told me about that radar is shown rotateing on utube so I can get it workin on my tiger after all

Chris
Not convinced as it would useless to fully rotate as most of it would face the mainmast. I still think the 278 was nodding dog type like it’s predecc and possibly limited traverse. It’s role is height finding

HI all time for a small update
ive been an still am tryin to fit all 4 prop sharfts tubes  in their right position's if poss
its been a heck of a job as its difficult to measure on this hull due to the hull curvature
but I think im getting there
1st linkpic I have made a cardboard template up an when it was the correct shape I transfferded it to wood as much stronger to hold the outer sharfts in place

An I think I have managed to get the motors in the right places as the sharfts  have to go right to the motor spindle they will be slighty more angled then if I had some cambelt drive motor mounts an MFA don't make them anymore not unless somebody can tell me different

Close up shot of  S/S  prop tubes an sharfts nr right by the plans but im thinkin the plans may be a guide only as they show two different A- frame angles but these angles are the only ones that will fit the hull so onwards an upwards

Chris.......are you intending to install 'outby', or 'inby' rotating [turning] propellers?

If you look carefully at post #246, you will see  %)   the prop rotation differs between the various images shown :-X

HI Derek  im hopein to have them turning inwards as hopefully it will give more prop thrust on the big rudder an hope she will turn quicker as I don't want to hit other peoples boats. An the reason you see the props different in the pics  was I just put the props on the sharfts to measure the distance between the props tips an hull as it has been difficult to get the sharfts alignment right how I want them an I must have had them in an out about 20 times as I  a bit fussy an it niggles me if im not happy with it ive been told I worry to much but that's just me

Chris
I have the definitive answer for the 278 Radar
It does NOT rotate 360 degrees for the reason I mentioned about it facing the main mast. What it does do is traverse between set arcs left and right
Info from radar tech HMS Blake same layout as Tiger
Hope this helps

HI Bob so simply put the radar moves just from left to right an right to left. So how big my main mast is all I need to make out of very tiny gears an tiny ball joint is a piston affair so as the main sharft that turns the big radar on the top the piston unit will traverse the 278 from left to right an back again an so on cheers an many thanks you've made me a happy man  :-)) as I like to try an get things reasonable right as when I built my HMS CAMBELTOWN F86 type 22 frigate in 1/72 scale .I had a  R/N picture of the ship an the crew what were out on the decks wore black trousers an yellow wind breakers an I  painted my crew figures like this an as I was sailin her up Norwich pond when a gent came over an said you have got that wrong m8 he said we wear whites an shorts as he had just left the ship in malta an flew home .But he dint take into account that the R/N pic I had modelled on was in cold wheather which I pointed out to him an he just walked away leaveing us all quite miffed at the pond funny ole world isn't it
all best chris

Chris
Yes "experts" can be amusing, once had a guy tell me that there were several ships in the Tiger class other than the three that were built, sometimes you have to bite your tongue.

HI all just another small update
ive been tryin to fit in the hull  the four prop tubes come sharfts  an its been a devil to do as all the hull curves have made it very awkward to get the measurements right >>:-( <*< in this piclink I have been maskin up all the prop tubes holes in the hull so that I can pour in resin to hold the tubes in place

I have laid the hull fairly level at an angle so that as I pour in the resin it wont run everywhere
