Here you go, two ways of doing it. The first is simple, the second does require some machining skill, but it is all singing, all dancing.

Bluebird,

Could you tell us a little more about your stabilising system? I, for one, am particularly interested in what your stabilising servos do.

Thanks, in advance.

hI THERE, if you have a look at this thread, we discussed stabilisers quite a bit on this thread, it may just answer some of your questions

I thought we were back in the  'South Atlantic'  there for a minute.   ;D

I might use flexi Rubber anchors painted black, as trapping them under the water seems a peril too many.   ::)

Cheers...Ken

hi . Look at the first one on the first link looked great and simple but. When raising the anchors and it reaches the top what there to stop it ripping up through the deck of the boat or breaking the mount of the winch. Or in the above link case stripping the gears. john

I dont know how they have done it but on my anchor winch the drive is from a converted servo which has a slipping clutch that will allow the servo to work even if the anchor is at its end or becomes jamed

What are people who have working anchors using to make the anchor overcome the chain weight and drag - IE as in  adding extra weight i guess ?

I have made my anchor from solid brass and this weight is enough to drag it down and for the flutes to grip the sand,  mud on the lake bed.

I am trying to get a drawing done of the slipping clutch idea I used to avoid the chain snapping or the anchor breaking the hawspipe/box areas.

Yes, I wondered about overcoming the inertia. For my next project I intend to experiment with a working anchor winch. However, I want to be able to slip the anchor not wind it down. I have thought of casting an anchor in lead and painting it appropriately.

If you look at the picture CAREFULLY, you will notice a small spring. This is the safety feature, if the anchor picks up on the lake bed, or when it reaches the fully UP position the gears will just JUMP OUT OF MESH.
If you used too strong a spring you would be in trouble, but you would use a spring, that with the weight of anchor and chain would allow it to stay in mesh, and any other restraining forces would cause it to 'jump' out of gear.
I have made the second one, and fitted it to a Dusseldorf, and it works brilliantly.
