( Have a look at
a great site about the QE2 -
www.qe2.org.uk )
Back in August 2001, Cunard (my employers) assisted in sponsoring a
submarine dive to the 'Titanic', as you are aware owned by White Star, who
merged with Cunard in 1936. 3 ships took part in the dive, an American
ship, a Russian ship and the British ship, 'Explorer', all flying the
White Star house flag.
I was onboard 'QE2' as a final trip Cadet and we made a pass close to the
site, with 'QE2' also flying the White Star flag. Onboard the Explorer was
Captain Warwick (the first Master on the new Queen Mary 2) who dived on
the ship, and the person who took the picture was the ships cook. This
picture got put on his laptop and forgotten until I joined a different
ship, the 'Marine
Explorer', where the cook now works, and the picture came out.
Unbeknown to us both, we had 'met' at the site of the Titanic's sinking 2
years previous, with the cook being on the Explorer and me on the QE2!
It just goes to show how much of a small world the Merchant Navy is, and
gives a good story to a quite unique picture. I'm now doing 1 more trip on
'Marine Explorer', then my secondment is over and I join 'QE2' on April
13th as Third Officer in Tenerife.

all,
